Key Responsibilities
The Permit to Work (PTW) Coordinator is responsible for administering, coordinating, and maintaining the project’s Permit to Work system to ensure all site activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory, MPK, and client requirements.
This role is critical to ensuring simultaneous operations risks are managed and that all work is properly authorised, controlled, and monitored.
- Implement and maintain the project Permit to Work system in line with company procedures and relevant WHS legislation
- Review, approve, and issue permits including Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Excavation / Trenching, Electrical Isolation, Work at Heights, Energised Systems / Line Breaking
- Verify that all pre-requisites (risk assessments, isolations, SWMS, JSEAs) are complete prior to permit approval
- Coordinate daily permit meetings and ensure effective communication between work groups
- Manage concurrent high-risk activities and identify potential conflicts (SIMOPs)
- Liaise with construction supervisors, contractors, and HSE personnel to prioritise and sequence work safely
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulators and legislation
- Conduct field verification of permits to confirm work is being executed as authorised
- Monitor adherence to controls identified in permits, SWMS, and risk assessments
- Coordinate with authorised isolators to ensure proper energy isolation and lockout/tagout processes
- Maintain isolation registers and confirm isolation integrity before issuing permits
- Maintain accurate permit registers and records
- Track permit status (issued, active, suspended, closed)
- Prepare reports on permit usage, compliance, and audit findings
- Participate in site safety audits and inspections
- Identify gaps or improvements in the PTW system and implement corrective actions
- Support incident investigations related to permit breaches or failures
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant trade or technical qualification or equivalent industry experience
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or higher)
- MSMPER300 - Issue work permits
- MSMPER200 - Work in accordance with an issued permit
- Training in Confined Space, Working at Heights, and Gas Testing
- ICAM or incident investigation training
- Demonstrated experience in Permit to Work coordination in oil & gas, energy, or construction projects
- Experience on gas gathering or pipeline projects
- Strong organisational and coordination skills
- High attention to detail and risk awareness
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic construction environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proficiency in digital permit systems and MS Office
- Strong understanding of High-risk work controls, Isolation and lock out/ tag out systems
